First it was phishing and then smishing. Costco has giveaways that they don’t know about; going to everyone’s phones via SMS. Most of us are smart enough to not click on the smishing text messages. When I got a “locked out” text from my bank it addressed me as Peter which was a dead giveaway, plus I had to click a link to secure my bank. Scam alert!
Phishing and smishing are socially engineered techniques criminals use with the intent to scam. They are after sensitive and private information.Grammatical errors I’ve read is one way to see through smishers, but it won’t always be enough. I bet some smishers can spell just fine. Quick tip: never enter your personal or login credentials through any link sent to you without talking with your provider or if you must, do so on their website.
I know today is the last day of Cyber Liability awareness month but it’s certainly not time to let down your guard. Provide your work team with regular training and cyber safety tips. Cyber criminals keep us in a “dark” reactive world. They have all the power and we have very little.
Your IT security company will do you loads of good by providing a layer of proactive defense features including firewalls, regular network tests to find any worms or threats perched deep in your system, but eventually when a breach happens, you may or may not have a privacy issue. That is not to say your company won’t be in trouble. You will have a business interruption expense spree; including data recovery, system failure, and other disruptions. Studies show that most businesses struggle to return to operation as usual after a cyber attack which is inevitable for all of us.
Wondering how much a cyber liability policy will cost? Well it depends on your industry and number of customer records you hold. Ask my team for a quote by providing some basic information through this link. https://www.alphadrct.com/cyber-liability-insurance-quote.html
Stay safe out there.
